Release of Information Specialist I

Vital Records Control (VRC)

The Release of Information (ROI) Specialist I is responsible for processing assigned requests for medical records in a timely and efficient manner while maintaining accuracy and high-quality service to healthcare clients.

This role safeguards patient privacy by ensuring that only authorized individuals access medical information and that all Release of Information requests comply with request authorization requirements, VRC policies, healthcare facility policies, and applicable federal and state laws, including HIPAA.

The position works closely with the ROI Area Manager and/or ROI Team Leader to address concerns related to quality, connectivity, client issues, and requestor issues that may affect service expectations. It also requires maintaining a professional and positive image of VRC in all interactions.

Key responsibilities include processing medical record requests, performing quality control checks, releasing records to authorized requestors, handling invoices and billing materials, maintaining secure records, and supporting additional facilities or request types as needed.

Requirements & Qualifications

Minimum qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED required; degree preferred
  • Prior experience with ROI fulfillment preferred
  • Basic knowledge of medical records and HIPAA preferred
  • Prior experience with EHR/EMR platforms preferred
  • Prior experience with Windows and Microsoft Office products
  • Strong computer skills and Microsoft Office skills
  • Prior experience with office equipment such as printers, computers, fax machines, scanners, and microfilm reader/printers preferred
