This role extracts clinical information from medical records and assigns appropriate procedural terminology and medical codes such as ICD-10-CM and CPT to patient records. The position also confirms appropriate DRG assignments, analyzes and manipulates database information, and responds to internal requests for medical information.
Work is routine and patterned, performed under close supervision and within established policies and guidelines. Decisions are limited to defined parameters around work expectations, quality standards, priorities, and timing.
This position is not remote.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent
- CPC, CCS, and CRC required
- 2 years of medical coding experience
- Experience interpreting medical records, both electronic and paper
- Experience working with physicians regarding coding requirements
- Knowledge of CPT/HCPCS and ICD-9/ICD-10 coding
- Knowledge of anatomy and physiology
- Knowledge of medical documentation and documentation requirements
- Excellent typing and 10-key speed and accuracy
- Commitment to a high level of customer service
- Previous experience operating office machinery, including copier, fax, computer, and printer
- Proficiency with Microsoft products
