Medical Records Coding Coordinator

Department: Medical Records

Shifts available: Days, Monday through Friday.

Hours: 8-hour shift, 8:00am to 5:00pm. No weekends or holidays.

Location: St. Joseph Medical Center, Kansas City, MO.

We are seeking a Medical Records Coding Coordinator, also referred to as a Medical Coding Coordinator, Medical Coder, or Health Information Coding Coordinator. The role is responsible for reviewing and analyzing medical records and assigning accurate ICD-10, CPT, and HCPCS codes in accordance with regulatory and hospital guidelines. Coded and abstracted information must be entered accurately into the electronic health information system to support revenue cycle operations, internal reporting, and required regulatory reporting.

The coder/coding coordinator works closely with hospital departments, corporate teams, and external coding vendors to resolve documentation and workflow issues and help maintain a low Discharged Not Final Billed (DNFB) rate.

Responsibilities include supporting accurate and timely coding completion, charge entry, and resolution of documentation, scanning, indexing, and system issues.

Requirements & Qualifications

Certification or license as a Certified Coding Specialist (CCS), Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT), or Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA) required.

Minimum 3 years of experience coding and abstracting in an acute care setting preferred.

Basic computer experience required.

Encoder software experience for code assignment in an acute care setting preferred.

Computer data entry with 10-key preferred, with accurate typing speed of 35 wpm preferred.

Successful completion of college-level courses in medical terminology, anatomy, physiology, pathophysiology, and ICD-10/CPT/HCPCS coding required.

Successful completion of ICD-10 training required.

Good communication and interpersonal skills to work effectively with hospital departments and onsite or remote coding teams.
