Substance Abuse Counselor

We are seeking a compassionate Substance Abuse Groups Leader to facilitate group therapy sessions and support recovery initiatives for individuals facing addiction and behavioral health challenges. In this role, you will lead evidence-based group activities that promote healing, resilience, and positive behavioral change. You will work within a collaborative multidisciplinary team committed to high-quality patient care.

The position involves supporting clients through their recovery journey in a safe and nurturing environment, with an opportunity to make a meaningful impact on individuals working toward wellness.

Requirements & Qualifications

Lead and facilitate structured group therapy sessions focused on substance abuse treatment, mental health counseling, and behavioral health management.

Use motivational interviewing, cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), and applied behavior analysis to encourage client engagement and progress.

Conduct patient assessments, including intake and diagnostic evaluations using ICD-9/ICD-10 coding systems, and provide ongoing case management.

Collaborate with clinical team members to develop individualized treatment plans that incorporate trauma-informed care, PTSD management, and family counseling when appropriate.

Maintain accurate medical documentation in compliance with HIPAA regulations, including progress notes, treatment plans, and medical records.

Use crisis intervention skills to manage acute behavioral or mental health crises while ensuring client safety.

Collect data for research purposes and contribute to continuous quality improvement initiatives.

Required experience includes group therapy facilitation in behavioral health or addiction treatment settings, psychotherapy modalities such as CBT, behavioral therapy, and social work practices, addiction counseling, crisis management, and case management. Familiarity with medical terminology, medical documentation standards, ICD coding systems, and CPT coding for billing is preferred. Experience in hospital or home and community care environments is highly desirable.
