Process requests for medical record and itemized bill copies in a timely and efficient manner while ensuring accuracy and delivering high-quality customer service.
Protect patient privacy by validating written authorizations and ensuring that only authorized individuals obtain medical records and other protected health information (PHI) in accordance with Health Information Management policies, HIPAA, and federal and state statutes. Enter all requests in Epic to support timely processing and tracking.
Key responsibilities include processing requests, performing quality assurance checks, providing customer service to internal and external requestors, participating in HIPAA and ROI training, and supporting the daily functions of the ROI unit.
Education
- High school diploma or equivalent required
Experience
- Previous experience in a medical office or HIM department
- 2-3 years of clerical experience in a health care setting
- Preferred: 2-3 years of experience in Health Information Management
Knowledge and Skills
- Knowledge of release of information regulations, both federal and state
- Medical terminology coursework preferred
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Computer literate with experience using Microsoft Office, email, and other software
- Strong customer service, problem-solving, and critical thinking skills
- Ability to work as part of a team
- Tact and diplomacy
- Must be able to speak, read, and write English; second language abilities are a plus
