Role Overview
This position is a physician role within Occupational Health Services at Pantex in Amarillo, TX. The Physician Senior Specialist supports the health and fitness-for-duty of a large workforce at a nuclear weapons facility, with responsibilities spanning occupational medicine, clinical care, and administrative oversight.
Key Responsibilities
- Diagnose and treat work-related illnesses and injuries
- Perform fitness-for-duty, pre-employment, and periodic physical examinations
- Provide medical and surgical care for industrial accidents and occupational diseases
- Review clinical records, drug screens, and health examination reports as the Medical Review Officer
- Maintain health records, case histories, and examination documentation
- Develop, administer, and improve health and safety programs
- Recommend strategies to reduce industrial hygiene and workplace health risks
- Support occupational health surveillance programs, including radiation safety, hearing conservation, asbestos, silica, and beryllium programs
- Collaborate with physicians, nurse practitioners, psychologists, nurses, physical therapists, dietitians, and administrative staff
- May oversee nurse practitioners and/or psychologists
- Direct the work of four or more employees
Requirements & Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications
- Doctor of Medicine (M.D.) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (D.O.) degree from an accredited medical school
- At least 7 years of practicing medicine
- Ability to obtain a Texas medical license
- Ability to obtain or maintain the following credentials:
- Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) certification
- Medical Review Officer (MRO) certification
- Department of Transportation (DOT) certification
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
- Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification
Preferred Qualifications
- 7+ years of clinical medicine experience
- Board Eligible or Board Certified (BE/BC)
- Occupational Medicine training preferred
- Internal Medicine, Family Practice, Emergency Department, or other specialist physician background with occupational medicine experience will be considered
- Experience working in a clinical setting with diverse populations
- Ability to obtain and maintain DOE Q clearance
- U.S. citizenship required for security clearance eligibility
- May be required to participate in the Human Reliability Program (HRP) and complete a counterintelligence-scope polygraph if needed
