Senior Release of Information Specialist

MRO Corporation

The Senior ROI Specialist provides on-site support at a client facility for release of information requests related to patient medical records. The role requires sound judgment, critical thinking, and the ability to handle uncommon ROI requests while supporting workflow at the site.

Key duties include:

  • Generating and submitting weekly reports from ROI Online and other tools as directed by management
  • Receiving incoming requests and responding to mail, walk-ins, telephone inquiries, and facsimile requests
  • Date stamping requests and highlighting pertinent data for processing
  • Validating requests and authorizations for release of medical information according to established procedures and HIPAA guidelines
  • Completing release of information requests accurately, including retrieving, copying, scanning, and electronically transmitting medical records
  • Maintaining equipment and troubleshooting issues with help desk support
  • Providing professional customer service and telephone etiquette
  • Maintaining a clean, organized work area and ensuring records and supplies are properly managed
  • Following state laws, HIPAA regulations, and facility policies regarding ROI
  • Assisting with backlogs, special projects, and additional assignments as needed
  • Communicating ongoing updates, workload issues, and potential HIPAA concerns to management
  • Using computer systems for data entry, retrieval, reporting, and time reporting
  • Maintaining confidentiality, information security, and safe handling of medical records
  • Participating in required training and staff meetings
Requirements & Qualifications

Required qualifications and skills:

  • 1 year of experience, preferably in release of information, medical records, or a related healthcare environment
  • Prior work experience in Release of Information in a physician's office or HIM department
  • Knowledge of medical terminology
  • Knowledge of HIPAA regulations
  • Strong customer service experience and/or training
  • Ability to understand ROI standards, policies, and procedures
  • Ability to use fax, copier, microfilm machine, multiline phone systems, and other work tools
  • Ability to learn new equipment and processes in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to work professionally in a team environment with minimal supervision
  • Strong organizational, verbal, written, and multitasking skills
  • Ability to travel to multiple sites as needed
  • Current and valid driver's license and personal automobile insurance meeting state requirements
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Proficiency with computer software such as Microsoft Word and Excel
