Adaptive behavior treatment guidance is a specialized form of therapy aimed at assisting family members, guardians, or caregivers who are responsible for the care of a patient. This guidance is provided by a physician or another qualified healthcare professional, such as a behavioral analyst or licensed psychologist, and is conducted without the patient being present. The primary objective of this treatment is to address and modify maladaptive behaviors exhibited by the patient, while also enhancing any deficient adaptive behaviors that may stem from impaired skills. During the session, the healthcare professional engages with the family or caregivers to identify specific problem behaviors or deficits that the patient may be experiencing. This collaborative approach allows the professional to teach caregivers effective treatment protocols designed to replace maladaptive behaviors with more appropriate techniques. The strategies discussed during these sessions are intended to be implemented by the caregivers, ensuring that the patient receives consistent support in their behavioral development. Both CPT® Code 0370T and its counterpart, CPT® Code 0371T, represent untimed therapy meetings that are reported when treatment guidance is provided to family members or caregivers, emphasizing the importance of their role in the therapeutic process.
