Molecular diagnostics involve a series of tests designed to identify genetic mutations that may be linked to various medical conditions, including oncological (cancer-related), hematological (blood-related), neurological (nervous system-related), or other inherited disorders. These diagnostic studies are crucial for detecting carriers of specific genes or diseases, particularly in individuals who may not exhibit any symptoms but are at an increased risk or predisposed to developing certain conditions. Additionally, molecular diagnostics play a vital role in diagnosing and monitoring existing disease states, allowing for timely and appropriate medical interventions. A key component of these diagnostic procedures is RNA stabilization, which is essential for preserving the integrity of RNA prior to testing. RNA degradation can significantly impact the sensitivity of assays used for disease monitoring, potentially leading to inaccurate assessments and false results. To prevent RNA breakdown, one effective method involves placing fresh tissue samples in a stabilization solution that rapidly penetrates the tissue and inactivates nucleases, thereby protecting the RNA until nucleic acid isolation can be performed. This preservation technique allows samples to be stored in refrigeration for extended periods, ranging from weeks to months, without compromising the quality of the RNA, akin to the process of freezing samples in liquid nitrogen but with greater convenience. Another approach for stabilizing RNA involves the use of an RNA blood kit, which integrates the stabilization method during the blood collection and processing stages, ensuring that the RNA remains intact for subsequent analysis.
