Common Language Description

Acoustic cardiography is an advanced diagnostic technology utilized primarily in the evaluation and management of patients with heart failure, as well as those undergoing cardiac resynchronization therapy (CRT) optimization. This innovative procedure integrates the automated recording and analysis of both acoustic heart sounds and electrical intervals from the heart, providing a comprehensive assessment of cardiac function. During the procedure, two single-channel sound sensors are strategically positioned at the V3 and V4 locations on the chest, while two ECG electrodes are placed to capture a single-channel electrocardiogram (ECG) for precise timing. The acoustic cardiography device is then activated to record heart sounds and electrical activity over a 10-second interval. The collected data undergoes automatic analysis, with results displayed on a computer monitor for further evaluation. This technology is capable of delivering a thorough analysis of the heart's hemodynamic performance, including the assessment of left ventricular function, filling patterns, pressures, and ejection fractions. Additionally, it plays a crucial role in monitoring cardiac dyssynchrony during CRT, allowing for the evaluation of atrioventricular (AV) and interventricular (VV) delays. For patients receiving CRT, the device can be reprogrammed to assess various delay settings, enhancing the customization of therapy. The procedure is coded as 0223T for a single study, while codes 0224T and 0225T are designated for multiple studies with specific reprogramming and evaluation parameters. Each procedure includes a physician's interpretation and a written report detailing the findings.
