Acoustic cardiography is an advanced diagnostic technology utilized primarily in the evaluation and management of patients with heart failure, as well as those undergoing cardiac resynchronization therapy (CRT) optimization. This innovative procedure integrates the simultaneous recording and analysis of electrocardiogram (ECG) data alongside heart sound data, providing a comprehensive assessment of cardiac function. During the procedure, two single-channel sound sensors are strategically placed in the V3 and V4 positions on the chest, while two ECG electrodes are also positioned to capture a single-channel ECG, which serves as a timing reference. The acoustic cardiography device is then activated to record both sound and electrical activity over a 10-second interval. The recorded data undergoes automated analysis, with results displayed on a computer monitor for further evaluation. This technology is particularly valuable for assessing left ventricular function, filling patterns, pressures, and ejection fractions, thereby offering insights into the hemodynamic status of the heart. Additionally, acoustic cardiography is instrumental in monitoring cardiac dyssynchrony during CRT, allowing for the evaluation of atrioventricular (AV) and interventricular (VV) delays. For patients receiving CRT, the device can be reprogrammed to adjust delay settings as needed. It is important to note that CPT® Code 0224T is designated for multiple studies that include limited reprogramming of device parameters and evaluation of AV or VV delays, while CPT® Code 0223T is used for a single study, and CPT® Code 0225T is applicable for multiple studies with evaluation of both AV and VV delays. Each of these procedures encompasses a physician's interpretation and a written report detailing the findings.
